Meet Justin "Sage" Williams from my perspective

This is Justin with Axis Off Grid & Survival. Here is the link to his school.

He is holding the newest "must have" survival gear! NWA Prepper stickers!  ( OK, not really)

Justin has his info on his web site so I will not ask you to read it twice.  The thing I want to share with you is how he has effected me and my family.

I first found out about Justin via YouTube.  He was doing survival skills videos as he was practicing for one of his longer schools he has completed.  I was enjoying his videos.  My son "Scout" was in the room with me and he overheard Justin mention that his boy was in Cub Scout.  My sons ears went straight up, just like a wolf scouts ears should.  After that we started watching the videos together.  We were having a great time.  Justin was going to a 45 day total immersion class to gain another teaching certification.  He posted a video every few days.  My  son and I loved it.  We looked forward to the time together.  We looked forward to what he was doing next.  When we would watch him preform or show us a skill we went and did it too.  We built shelters. We crawled around looking for grubs and worms.  We set snares.  We built fires.  We did as many things as we could find the time to do.  "Just like him" as my son would say.

Justin had completed his 45 day course and was off to a new adventure for he and his family.  He posted that he was having a yard sale to get ready for a move that was going to happen in the next few days.  My son and I watched it and I said "Son, that is ten minutes away. Do you want to go?"  Of course he did.  We jumped in the truck and went to his yard sale.

When we arrived we were both nervous.  After all this was "the guy".  We walked around and shopped ( I got two great Glock knives).  After a few minutes we got our courage up and told him we liked what he did on YouTube.  We told him about our small channel as well. He looked at us and called my son by his YouTube name "Scout".  It made my son so happy.  They talked about the shelters Scout had made and about scouting.  I was a proud father.  It was great to see someone that we look up to treating my son like a fellow and not a little kid.  I was also blessed to get a few minute of his time.  They were busy with the sale and packing to move.  Justin ask if I was OK if he gave my son something.  I said sure.  Justin went inside.  When he came out he handed my son a handmade neck knife w/sheath.  He told him about how he made it and some of the ways he had used it in his classes.  He also gave him a training video on survival skills.  These items were not in the yard sale stuff.  He went into his home to get something special for my son.  I will never forget that.  My son will never forget that.

This just a small sample of his heart.  Please check out his web site.  Look for him on YouTube.  He is on Facebook too.

Thanks Justin 'Sage" for all you do!

The real face time

The real face time.
You know what the Face time app is.  That is most definitely not what I am talking about.  I am talking about good old fashioned face to face communication.

Meeting people in person is great.  You can see, hear and feel what they are trying to share with you.  You get perceptions about who they really are.  This is very hard to do online.  (sounds funny coming from an online blogger).
In the area of safety and security it makes more sense to meet in person.  It is too easy to get info from your social media.  They can learn things about you that you may not know about yourself yet.  Patterns, places you go, your friends, your work place and more.  If you are in a personal meeting you can chose what you share.  If you don't want to be Fred then you can say your "Barney".

With all that said it is important to meet other people.  You can learn from others.  You can help and get help from others.  You can teach others.  We need other people to be a success.  We are tribe animals for the most part.

Get out there and look for and meet like minded people.  They are not going to knock on your door and say "Hi, I'm here to help you".  You have to be looking for them.

Look for meetings on self reliance,  homesteading, survival, or prepping in your area.  They are out there.  This last weekend I went to a meet and greet for the Arkansas Preparedness Network.  They had a good showing and good facilitators.  They had a pot luck lunch.  (YUMMY!)  They have information on how to get involved.  They were also roaming the crowd trying to help the shy ones make connections.  It was good.  Events happened and there was need to move from the initial area to a new area due to the meeting going longer than anticipated.  What a great problem!  People wanting to stay and network longer than you plan is a great thing.  The move from one area to the other was seamless.  Everyone pitched into pack and store the food and move the other items to the new meeting spot across the park. It was like a mini bug out drill.  It even helped open the group up a bit and increase the conversation.

These types of events happen all over the place.  You can find them.  You SHOULD fine them.  Get out there and get with others that want to be ready for emergency too.

Man, Its getting hot out there.

I do not know where you are from but where I am it is SUMMER!  We are in the 90's almost everyday now.  I know there are some of you are laughing at that temperature.  That is hot to me.  It doesn't take long at that temp for me to feel the effects.  The most noticeable thing to me is that I don't have much fun when it is hot.  I just don't like to be hot. I am writing this with my feelings towards the heat in mind.

What can we do to stay cooler in the heat?  I am not talking about going inside to the AC.  I like air conditioning as well as anyone.  There are times that we cant get inside so what do we do?

Drink water!
Clear, clean, no additives high quality H2O.  Not soda, not sports drinks, not the flavor packages, just water.  I drink over three liters a day when its not hot.  That means I need way over that to stay at the same level that I am a custom too.

Wear a hat
I like to wear a light weight, light colored floppy hat with a wide brim.  There are tons of different company's that make them.  I have a few different ones but in the heat i find I like a lighter weight one than a mil spec one.

Do Not Over Do It!
There is a time and a place for everything.  I know that there are times when you have to work hard.  What I am saying it to try to pace yourself.  Take frequent breaks and try to move to a shaded area when ever you can.

Stay safe this season.  Get prepared before you go outside.  Watch the ones around you to make sure they are doing ok too.

Thanks for reading this and as always

Is it time to "Armor up"?

Is it time to armor up?

Is today the day you will need some sort of protection from a firearm?   Who knows when a crazy person will want to hurt people.  Bad people are EVERYWHERE!  They are looking for opportunity to destroy people.

I feel that there are times that I wish I had a layer of protection with me.  There are tons of products for this purpose.  There are times that I have a tactical plate carrier with a first aid kit, flashlight and other items with me.  there are other times that I have a soft armor vest.  Believe it or not there are even times that I don't have any armor option with me.  I am thinking about fixing that.  I have found a few of the backpacks that have armor inside them.  The look like a regular back pack and don't weigh much more.

I like it so far.  It gives me an option for safety in my office and as I walk around town.  That makes me happy.

I hope you are always looking on ways to improve your readiness.

Buuurrrrrrrr, Its cold out there

I went out in the woods this weekend.  It was a great time.  The temperatures were in the low 20's.
We were not to far off the beaten path but still had a few challenges to overcome.
There were plenty of coats, hats and gloves.  Everyone there had a hat and gloves.  The food was never ending.  Almost everyone slept warm (it was not from lack of sleeping bags).  No ones vehicle broke down.  No was was hurt.  The kids even started their fire with flint and steel.

Sounds like a great weekend.  It was wonderful!  We left with around 20 young men and a few old farts for a weekend of cold weather fun.  We had a great time.  Some of the group went on a 2 mile hike and some went on a 10 mile hike.  everyone made it back safe and sound.  Sunday we had a religious time and headed home.  Kids were happy and warm.  The adults were glad to be home and ready to hear the kids start to tell about their adventures.  I was another successful weekend trip.

SO....
What makes this fit into a preparedness blog?

Everything went smooth because everyone was prepared for the weather and the activity's.  We had already thought of what we would need and what could happen.  We planned ahead.

As you start this new year out with you new ideas on life try to plan for a little more than last year.  Get out and do a little more skills practice and learn something new.

I hope you have a great year!!!
